Jas 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
I read about a neatly dressed man who stood on a street corner in downtown Chicago. As pedestrians walked by on their way to lunch or business, he would solemn lift his right arm, point to a person near him and loudly say, “GUILTY!” He would then hand that person a gospel tract.
Then without any change of expression, he would resume his stiff stance for a few moments before repeating the same gesture again.
The effect of his pointing at a person and saying “GUILTY” to passing strangers was very moving; it was almost eerie. They would stare at their accuser, hesitate for a moment, turn away, and then stop and look at him again, and then hurriedly move on.
The man was telling the truth, everyone is guilty of sin. Sin is universal. To deny that we are sinners will result in the eternal judgment of God. We must be diligent in warning people of their sin and present to them the only cure for their sin problem: Jesus.
God may not lead us to stand on a street corner and confront strangers as being GUILTY, but we must ALL let our family and friends know that they are guilty before God and that Jesus is the only cure.
Consider: “If one evil thought, if one evil word, if one evil action deserves eternal damnation, how many hells, my friends, do every one of us deserve, whose whole lives have been one continued rebellion against God?” (George Whitefield)
