Characteristics Of A Godly Man #4- Gentleness

2Sa 22:36 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great.

In 2 Samuel 22, David is speaking of the power of God and the strength that he was given by Him. This chapter contains so many wonderful verses and things to be studied. One statement that I find very amazing is in verse 36 where he says that God’s gentleness had made him great.

A godly man is one of strength that is covered in gentleness. The result of a strong man without gentleness is a brawler.

  • Titus 3:2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.
  • 2Ti 2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

The second chapter in 2 Timothy begins with the apostle Paul telling Timothy to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. He continues on and instructs how we are to be gentle to all men.

When we use our strength through the channel of gentleness, we can then do mighty things for the cause of Christ. As godly men, we should always recognize the dangers of strife and brawling. This should drive us to lead our homes in gentleness according to God’s plan for our lives.

2Co 10:1 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:

Consider: Credentials on the wall do not make you a decent person.

Smile: Restaurant Sign:  Don’t stand there and be hungry; come on in and get fed up.
