GLORIFY GOD IN YOUR BODY
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”
The Wicker Institute of Tubingen has published the following statistics: In West Germany 68 percent of the men and 77 percent of the women have their cars serviced every 3,000 to 6,000 miles whether repairs were needed or not. However, only 24 percent of them had regular physical checkups on their own bodies. Upon receiving this report, one writer commented, “In West Germany people love their cars more than they do themselves…and probably the same holds true in our own country.
If we apply these statistics to Christians, it certainly is a serious indictment. It is our responsibility to take good care of our bodies. This is true, first of all, because they are the temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19). Secondly, they are the vessels through which God accomplishes His work. With this in mind, the apostle Paul writes, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1). If we don’t take care of ourselves as we should and we become weak and sickly, the effectiveness of our service for Christ may be seriously hampered. Thirdly, strong, clean, healthy bodies present a good testimony to the world. Those who avoid the physical harm and dissipation resulting from the use of tobacco, alcoholic beverages, and immoral living have a wholesome look and sharpness of eye. Clean living results in a more effective Christian witness. (See Daniel 1:8-15).
A well-regulated life, exercise and sufficient rest along with a balanced diet are very important to the Christian. Remember the Biblical admonition to “glorify God in your body.
Wit and Wisdom – Our bodies, properly cared for, can become lovely harps, skillfully tuned to the glory of God.
Point to Ponder – With this virus thing we can save the human race by laying in front of the TV and doing nothing. Let's NOT mess this up!
