WHAT DO PEOPLE SEE IN US?
1 Tim. 4:12 - “…be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”
Today we live in a sample-oriented society. Signs in supermarkets often say TAKE ONE, offering pieces of tasty products to their customers. A small box of cereal in a plastic bag is sometimes attached to our doorknob or we may see a man disguised as a huge peanut passing out nuts in front of a store, encouraging people to go into the store and make a purchase.
The importance of the sample is further illustrated by the story of a group of experts who went to a certain district in Australia to see if gold ore was present and could be mined.
After examining the area, they prepared a report stating that the earth’s strata did contain precious gold in that area. Although their findings were widely publicized, no one seemed interested. Later, however, a shepherd boy came to Melbourne carrying an actual nugget in his hand. “Wow, that’s gold!” someone shouted. “Where did you find it?” “North of here.” he replied. The rush began, and soon hundreds of people left their homes to seek a fortune. The boy’s sample had done the trick.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the greatest treasure of all, but it too goes unnoticed by many. A Christian who shares the message with others is most effective when he/she demonstrates its transforming power in their own lives. For people to see the love of God in our lives will be more powerful than anything we could possibly say. This will create in others a desire to know Him also. The world must see Christ in us before they will believe us!
We must reflect the image of the Savior in the way we talk, the way we treat others and the way we conduct ourselves. By living a life that is pleasing to God we can become one of the many SAMPLES NEEDED TO BRING LOST SOULS TO THE LORD.
Wit and Wisdom – Some may doubt what you say, but they cannot deny what you are.
Smile Awhile – The first sign of old age is when you hear snap, crackle and pop and it isn’t your cereal.
