[Lighthouse Daily Devotion] Mine Own Mind or God’s Word

Mine Own Mind or God’s Word

Nu 24:13 If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the LORD saith, that will I speak?

Thoughts and opinions are often expressed in conversations with passion. Our minds formulate ideas, and it is very easy to be rooted firmly in our thoughts. While being rooted and grounded is a good thing, our opinions must be in the soil of truth.

Col 2:7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

In Numbers 24, Balaam says that he cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of his own mind; but what the LORD saith, that will he speak.

As born-again Christians, we have been given the ministry of reconciliation. Second Corinthians chapter five tells us we are ambassadors for Christ.

2Co 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

We are to go forth representing our Saviour, standing firm on the commandments and truths of His Word.  We do not have the liberty to go beyond the commandment of the Lord to do either good or bad of our own minds.  God’s Word is our foundation. The thoughts in our mind should be a result from a mind that is stayed on the Lord.

We can rest our thoughts in the truth of Scripture and stand firmly on the authority of His Word.  When our thinking does not align with the Bible, then we must realign our thoughts with God’s Word.

Consider – A happy and content person can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
