The Great I AM!

Mt 14:27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

Every day, in every way, we need the Great I Am. The disciples truly understood this, on the night Jesus sent them over to the other side, straight into a storm.  Jesus knew it.  Jesus saw it.  Jesus could have come sooner.

But Jesus needed to teach them a lesson that they would need every day of their lives—the message that He is to be trusted completely, even though they could not understand the reason for the storm.

They experienced the miracle of Jesus walking on the water, of Peter joining Him, and of the raging storm completely under His control.  However, it is not a miracle they needed;  it was His Presence. While they were in great fear, He spoke words of peace to them—It is I.

Recently we have seen the devastation of hurricane Helene. Jesus was not there physically to calm the storm, but He was in control of the storm. Many knew His presence during the fierce storm. When a hurricane passes over, they say the eye of the storm is calm. Raging winds all around, but in the eye, peace.

Jesus is the “I” of our storms, when we turn our eyes upon Him and trust the One Who controls the storms in our lives.  The moment He stepped into their ship, the storm ceased. Verse 32.

1. During a storm of life, if you know Jesus as your Saviour, Jesus is in your boat! He is the Captain and will bring your boat to shore.

2. They saw the water as their biggest problem. They felt as though they were going to drown in the water that Jesus was walking on!   What was over their heads, was under His feet!

3. Finally, and foremost, Jesus is the Great I AM—the answer to every need we have or will have. He is the Bread of Life, the Living Water, the Door, the Light of the World.  These titles  remind us that all things are possible with Him.

    I walked a mile with Pleasure;
        She chatted all the way;
        But left me none the wiser
        For all she had to say.

    I walked a mile with Sorrow;
        And ne’er a word said she;
        But, oh! The things I learned from her,
        When Sorrow walked with me.

Consider – His eye is on the sparrow And I know He watches me. Trouble is our best friend,  when it brings us to Jesus.
