Ga 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Adoption refers to God placing a believer as an adult son, thus heir, and giving him access to all the privileges that go with it. There is some confusion among believers because of the modern use of the word adoption. The modern meaning refers to taking a child born to another and making him one’s own—legally, but not by birth.
However, believers in the Lord Jesus are born into the family of God. You are a child by birth. In fact, it is the only way to get into God’s family. You are a legitimately blood-bought child of God through regeneration.
In the Scriptures, adoption is not so much a word of relationship as it is of position. It speaks not of how a believer came a member of the family, but it speaks of the fact that he already is a member. His adoption does not make him a child. It positions him as an adult, and thus he enjoys all the rights and privileges thereof. It is very similar to the Jewish bar-mitzvah, where one who is already a child becomes a legal adult.
1Jo 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
A portion of this glorious adoption, with its benefits, involves the glorification of our body.
Ro 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
Another present benefit of the adoption of believers relates to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
Ro 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Finally, the full benefits of this adoption are absolutely assured to be executed in full. It is predestined to be so.
Eph 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
There is a better day coming, Beloved. As a child of God, you have quite an inheritance awaiting. As they say, the half has never yet been told!
Consider – Some day the Lord Himself shall broadcast it to the world, that you belong to Him!
