Ps 34:17-19 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. 18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. 19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
Prayer is powerful. Missionary George Muller is known for seeing numerous prayers answered as he sought to rescue children and lead them to the Lord. He said, “Have certain times for secret closet prayer, when by ourselves we pour out our souls before God."
Once, I was challenged by a friend on a mission’s trip to meditate on how often the Bible mentions praying and crying out to the Lord.
Daniel prayed and cried out to the Lord consistently three times a day. He is a great example of faithfulness in seeking the Lord. He prayed when he faced the lions, and God gave him deliverance. Da 9:3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
David’s cries are recorded all throughout the Psalms. Ps 61:1-2 Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. 2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Ps 5:2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.
God gave David not just physical deliverance from Saul but also spiritual and emotional deliverance. Ps 40:1-3 I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. 2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. 3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
Something about our cry to the Lord tunes HIs ears to listen extra closely, and He delights to bring us deliverance.
What is troubling you today? What burdens are on your heart? Do you have lost loved ones that you would like to see you saved?
Ps 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
Consider – Cry out to the Lord. He hears and wants to bring deliverance, not only to us physically, but more importantly, deliverance spiritually and emotionally.
