Looking For Him

Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Simeon was looking for Christ, and he saw Him. Lu 2:30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation.  His eyes gazed upon Amazing Grace. Indeed, God had fulfilled a personal promise to him, as a testimony to us, and as evidence of exactly Who this glorious child was.

Anna, as well, gave testimony of the Lord at His first coming. Lu 2:38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

As they were looking for the Christ, so do we anticipate His appearance the second time. He dealt with our sin in His first coming, and in His second coming, He will bring about the completion of our salvation in glorification. This is our anticipation and hope.

When He returns, there is no further need of a sin offering, as He has already satisfied the justice of God in His atoning death. The one-time offering for sin is finished and sufficient. So when He comes back, He will not be dealing with sin in the born again. His return brings with Him the height of God’s gracious gift of eternal life, in glorification.

As Scripture speaks of the Lord’s two comings, so it speaks of our two looks to Him. We look to Him in saving faith, when we believe on Him as our Saviour. In our second look, we now anticipate His return. Jesus will then complete the salvation of His saved ones.

Glorious day! When we shall be able to finally and perfectly enjoy the fullness of His salvation!

Who are they who are looking for Him to come again? They who have seen Him in His first coming.

Consider – Jesus came once humbled, despised, and put to death. He shall come again to be honored.
