Matt 5:4 “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”
It has been about four months since my Mother went home to be with the Lord. Amid my mourning, I have learned a few things about how God comforts His people in such circumstances. Blessing was never something that I expected to encounter amid this great loss.
One of my fondest remembrances of my Mom was how she was always glad to see me and would always welcome me with a big hug. I will miss those hugs more than anything. Whether I received one because I was hurt, was returning after being gone a while, or any other reason, they became the definition of comfort in my life. In the same way my Mom could break through the sadness and pain and wrap me up in a comforting embrace, God can also.
2Co 1:3-5 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
As my Lord comforts me as He has promised, I can share that comfort with others. Therein is the blessing. The sweet embrace of our Loving Saviour is meant to be shared with others so that they would seek out a relationship with Him, the one who holds the title “Comforter.”
All the comfort we will ever need in this challenging life abounds inside us and was never meant to be a blessing to us alone. If you have accepted Christ as your personal Saviour, then the Comforter He spoke of in John 14:16 lives inside you. Now go out and share that comfort and consolation with the World. They surely need it.
Joh 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
