Giving Thanks During Hard Times

Da 6:10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
When we think of Daniel, we often think of how he was thrown into a den of lions, and how God closed the lions’ mouths, thus sparing Daniel’s life. This account was certainly a miraculous event.
As we study the above passage, we can see Daniel’s faithfulness. After King Darius signed the decree, the Bible tells us that Daniel prayed three times a day on his knees.
I find it amazing that the Scripture doesn’t stop there but that the Holy Spirit of God led the writer to include the words, “and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.” Daniel was being faced with a very scary situation of being fed to lions, yet in his heart, he gave thanks as he did aforetime.
When things are pleasant and comfortable, giving thanks is very easy, but in times of stress and heartache, giving thanks is much more difficult. Being faced with death did not phase Daniel in giving thanks to his God.
We, as Christians, have been bought with the Blood of Christ and have been delivered from an eternity in hell. Now, just as Daniel did, we should give thanks to our Saviour as we look to Him as the Author and Finisher of our faith.
1Th 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Consider – No law, no matter how powerful its source, can overrule God’s Word—nor our faith and conscience towards it.
