Don’t Let The Fire Go Out

Le 9:23-24 And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of the congregation, and came out, and blessed the people: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the people. 24 And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

In Leviticus chapter nine, we find the first instance of the fire of God falling upon the altar at the house God chose to put His name on. We are told in Leviticus chapter six, verses twelve and thirteen, that the fire was to never be put out. It was God’s sign of His approval and His confirmation, that the Tabernacle was His house where He would meet with man.

The fire falls from God once again when Solomon builds the Temple in Jerusalem in II Chronicles 7:1. Once again God confirms that His name was to be in this house, and that in times of need, men could pray toward His house, from no matter where, and when they repented and humbled themselves, He would hear from heaven.

Verse fourteen from that chapter is a verse we need today for it says…

  • 2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

But we are not Jewish people with a Tent or a Temple to pray toward. So, in these perilous times, where do we go to pray?

I believe the answer is found in Acts chapter two, where we are told that on the day of Pentecost, cloven tongues of fire fell on the believers, signifying that the Holy Spirit of God had fallen
once again on His house, just like the Lord had promised in John chapter sixteen.

Christ promised the New Testament Church that the Spirit of God would dwell, not in a Tent or Temple, but would put His name on us and make our bodies the Temple of the living God.

Meditation – If you are a child of God, the fire of God, in the form of the Holy Spirit, was placed on the altar of your heart when you trusted Christ as Saviour. Don’t let the fire go out that fell on you that day!
