Ps 42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

I read an account of a missionary in India who lay burning with fever from Malaria. As the disease sapped her strength, a feeling of depression put her in the depths of despair. She felt so overwhelmed that she asked God to take her home.

But one day as she was in this state of depression, she heard the sounds of music coming from another room in the house. A group of Indian young people were having a service. She heard them singing in their language, “I have decided to follow Jesus; no turning back, no turning back.”

The song touched her heart and she began praying. Soon her prayers turned to praise, and God lifted her discouragement. Not long after, her health returned, and she continued serving the Lord in world missions for many years.

I think many of us can relate to this experience. Have you known the kind of discouragement that makes you want to just give up? Whenever you get down or discouraged, remember the words of David in Psalm 42. David not only had the problem—he also had the solution: “Our hope is in God.”

If we know the Lord, we can sing from our heart, “I have decided to follow Jesus; no turning back, no turning back.” When you trust Jesus, you’ll find hope and courage to continue the course that God has placed you on.

Consider – What the Bible does NOT say: Hope in education. Hope in a job. Hope in money. Hope in others.

Smiley –  The golden years are really just metallic years: gold in the tooth, silver in your hair, and lead in the rear.
