1Co 3:9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
God has a place for every Christian to serve Him. The foundation of this work for God is Jesus Christ. Without a solid foundation, the work will be shoddy and without lasting results. After the foundation is laid, other Christians can add to the building. The end result is always given by God. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 3:6, “I have planted. Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.”
Are you a laborer with God? It often takes many Christians to add their counsel and prayers to reach the heart of an unsaved soul or to help the Christian find the ministry God has for him or her. It’s like a jigsaw puzzle, with different people adding pieces until the puzzle is complete. It is always God who brings completion.
As a child I attended a church where the Bible was preached, but the Gospel was not made plain. A bit of seed was planted.
An older couple, friends of my husband from his days in the orphanage, were dedicated Christians. They had given him a Bible for his high school graduation. We wanted to start our marriage off right and began to read it daily. We didn’t really understand what we were reading, so after a few months, we quit reading. Still, some seed was planted.
In the early years of our marriage, I worked in an office with a man who was also a dedicated Christian. At that time, I was an unsaved church member of a liberal church. Homer kept inviting me and my husband to visit his church. Finally, we went one Sunday just to appease him, but did not go back. The Gospel was preached, and a bit of seed was planted.
A few years later my grandfather died. He too was a dedicated Christian. Looking at him in the casket I KNEW he was alive somewhere with the Lord. More seed was planted.
Some months passed and a friend invited us to a revival meeting at his church. The sound Gospel preaching, the enthusiastic singing, the friendliness of the congregation, (and I now know, the prayers of the people), all combined to convict our hearts of our need of a Saviour. The seeds of many years came to fruition. We accepted Christ and were baptized at the conclusion of the weeklong meeting.
All these people were co-laborers with Christ.
Are we taking advantage of promptings from the Holy Spirit to “plant” or “water”?
Consider – In this New Year, let’s commit ourselves to being co-laborers to spread the Gospel of Christ.
