[Lighthouse Daily Devotion] Jealousy

Jealousy

1Sa 18:8-9 And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom? 9 And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.

Recently, I saw a sign that said that those who seek outward confirmation lack inward character. This phrase intrigued me and made me think of king Saul and of the jealousy he had towards David. Rather than being grateful and excited for David and his accomplishments, inwardly he was jealous and full of envy. The jealousy led him towards a heart of hatred and towards a desire to kill David.

King Saul was very happy when everybody was singing about him killing his thousands, yet he became wroth when he heard of those singing of David killing his tens of thousands. King Saul had everything at his disposal, yet his lack of inward character and his insecurity lead him to a hatred towards a godly young man.

The Bible says in Proverbs 6:34—Pr 6:34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

What a sad thing to see leaders who are so insecure that they become jealous of others!

We need leaders who are secure in their relationship with Christ and in their walk with the Lord. Our homes, churches, and country need godly men who will lead in righteousness with sound minds.

May we always remember that He is the vine and we are the branches.

Consider – For without Christ, we can do nothing.
