Ge 3:22-24 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: 23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. 24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
In my study of Genesis Chapter 3, I learned that after Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, they experienced five consequences. Firstly, they felt shame, and then they shifted the blame onto others. God then pronounced judgment on them, and the ultimate outcome was death. This week, we will examine the final result of an act of sin: Separation.
Just as Adam and Eve's sin separated them from God and the Garden of Eden, our sin also separates us from the presence of God. There is no coming back because God is holy, and we are not.
But why did God expel Adam and Eve? It was out of love. In verse 22, the Bible tells us that God did not want Adam and Eve to eat from the Tree of Life, or they would have lived forever in a sinful state with no hope. So, they were sent out into the world.
We, too, are cast out of God's presence because of our sinful nature. But God made a way for us to have fellowship with Him again, and that is through Jesus Christ. His shed blood on the Cross of Calvary over 2,000 years ago was enough to cover all the world's sin debt. You must ask God to apply it to your sin and allow Him to cover you in clothes of Christ’s righteousness.
If you have never trusted in Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection as payment for your sins, when you die, or the Lord returns, you will be forever separated from God in a place called hell.
However, God has provided a way for us to return to Him. The best way you know how confess to God that you are a sinner, ask for forgiveness and make Him the Lord of your life.
Consider: Man lost his garden utopia on earth, but now it may be restored in the Promised Seed–the Lord Jesus Christ.
