Joh 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
“It is finished!” These three words were the last ones uttered by our Saviour as He paid the sacrificial death for our sin on the cross of Calvary. What powerful words these are! Jesus Christ had come to this earth to fulfill the law and to do His Father’s will. The death of the testator (Hebrews 9:16) led to a New Testament in which we now live.
When the words “it is finished” were uttered, the veil of the temple rent in two from the top to the bottom (Mark 15:38). This significant event reveals Christ as our High Priest (Hebrews 8:1), our Mediator (1 Timothy 2:5), and our Advocate with the Father (1 John 2:1).
Since Genesis 3:15, the devil and his wicked followers tried to keep the promise of a redeemer from being fulfilled. The Lord Jesus Christ humbly and obediently accomplished His Father’s plan. The three words “it is finished” truly are miraculous, powerful words.
When a person receives the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour, they have security because of Christ’s atoning work on Golgotha’s Hill. We could never earn our way into heaven nor lose our salvation because of what Christ did for us. I am thankful that He humbly fulfilled His Father’s will and that “it is finished.”
Consider: “Has He finished his work for me? Then I must get to work for Him, and I must persevere until I finish my work, too; not to save myself, for that is all done, but because I am saved.” (Spurgeon)
Smiley: Someone said, Before I got married, I had six theories about bringing up children; now, I have six children and no theories.
