Ac 6:3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
In the book of Acts, we see a need for the caring of the widows. The twelve were in need of godly men who could assist in this worthy ministry. When they called the multitude together, the instructions were to find men of honest report.
Sadly, today honesty has become a thing of the past. In recent times, a handshake or verbal commitment would stand in a transaction. Today, billions of dollars are spent on lawsuits and legal fees because of dishonesty. The Bible plainly teaches that honesty is a characteristic of a godly man, and one which we should all possess.
- 1Ti 2:2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
Our God is a God of truth
- De 32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
When we lose the truth, we have lost everything. One that is dishonest and doesn’t have a foundation of truth in his life, his dealings, or his motives is in fact a disgrace to our Creator.
A godly man is truly one that abides in truth and walks honestly.
Ro 13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
Consider: It is better to suffer for the truth than to be rewarded for a lie.
Sage Advice: One wife said that to live to be one hundred, “First, you get to ninety-nine, and then you live carefully for one more year.”
