Lu 24:30-32 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. 32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
What happens when you have lost all hope, when everything you trusted in seems to fail? What do you do when death has taken away a loved one, when you lose everything you held dear? You watched your dreams disappear, your closest friends disappointed you, and you are slipping into depression—what do you do?
When you find yourself in the way, yet sad and discouraged, what can you do?
For this discouraged couple, who were hurting because they were now questioning if the One they trusted was really the Christ, our Lord calmed their every fear with Scripture.
When the dark days of life come your way, and they will come, do you have Scripture that burns within your heart? Walk with Him in the way, and let Him set your heart on fire.
Remember this—Our risen Saviour still:
- Walks with men. We don’t have to go through this life alone! God is still willing to walk beside us in the way, even when the way is dark.
- Is concerned with men’s problems. He cares. He knows just what we need. He has been down this road before when He walked amongst us. He knows what we are going through.
- Sets men’s hearts on fire. Scripture can still set your heart on fire.
Jer 20:9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
Jer 23:29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?
Lu 24:32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
Will you walk with Him by the way? Will you put God’s Word into your heart and let it burn within you?
If so, it will show. You will be going to tell someone that Jesus wiped away all your doubt and despair, because you walked with Him in the way, and He opened your understanding of the Scriptures.
CONSIDER: In the way, you stand on another soil, under a new sky, and breath another air, as you walk with Him
