“WHAT HATH GOD WROUGHT?”
Psalm 29:2 – “Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.”
In one of the newspapers a columnist recently observed: “Whereas Morse declared, ‘What hath God wrought,’ when the first telegraph transmission was made more than a century ago, if the event has occurred today most likely he would have said, ‘What can man do!”
There has been a tremendous change in the attitude of the average individual on the street. Generally speaking, there was a time when the Lord was given due recognition. His power was respected and mankind’s attainments were credited to the abilities he received from His Creator. In our day, however, there seems to be a prevalent disregard for Him.
We’re all familiar with the “God is dead” crowd. In addition to these a brand-new breed now seems to fill the earth – those who, having been raised on a godless, evolutionary diet, give the Lord no place in their thinking. They ascribe their accomplishments to their own ingenuity, and thus making “gods” of themselves, conclude that nothing is beyond the potential of their powers. It reminds me of the generation that built the Tower of Babel. Observing their activities, God was displeased, especially because their motivation was wrong. They said, “Let US make US a name.” Again today, men review their achievements and proudly proclaim what man can do rather than humbly acknowledge the great debt they owe to their Maker.
Whether in national affairs, Church activities, or in your own personal life, let us always remember to “give unto the Lord the glory due His name” (Ps. 29:2). With Morse we should ascribe to Him the esteem He deserves, saying, “WHAT HATH GOD WROUGHT!”
Wit and Wisdom – In an age of false superlatives, we must remember that only God is great!
Point to Ponder - It's the start of a brand new day, and I'm off like a herd of turtles
