Job 8:3 Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice?

Judgment and justice are often paired together. The question raised here in Job causes us to think on God‘s ways of dealing with injustices.

Later on, the statement is made, “Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: He is excellent in power, and in judgment, And in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.” (Job‬ ‭37‬:‭23‬‭)

Our world is filled with sin and sin’s consequences. Sometimes, the wicked seem to prosper and the righteous seem to suffer.

Ps 73:3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

However, we know that God promises to reward the righteous. Mt 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Even though Job may have wondered what God was doing, he purposed in his heart, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: But I will maintain mine own ways before him. He also shall be my salvation: For an hypocrite shall not come before him. Hear diligently my speech, And my declaration with your ears. Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified.” (Job‬ ‭13‬:‭15‬-‭18‬‭)

He determined to remain faithful to the Lord, although he did not understand His ways.

Isa 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Ultimately, we may not understand all that God is doing, but we can rest assured that the Lord will make things right. He will bring justice to the wicked and will bless the righteous. “For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.” ‭‭(Hebrews‬ ‭10‬:‭30‬‭)

Job could cling to this promise, and so can we. Instead of looking at the world around us and becoming discouraged with all the evil that is taking place, we can hope in God and in His Word and trust His promises.

Reflection – To be wronged is nothing unless you keep remembering it.
