[Lighthouse Daily Devotion] Perfect Peace

Perfect Peace

Isa 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

I would think that most of us are familiar with the verse above; many might have memorized it.  In today’s age, where there seems to be very little peace in our world and in our lives, that might be one of the best verses to keep in our minds and on our lips.  I came across it today in my daily Bible reading—before my day started when I did not know of the things that would come my way and try to shatter the peace of the moment I had in God’s word.

A call to my brother in hospice care, another with news of problems with ministries that are dear to us requesting prayers for serious matters.  A lunch with a pastor who has a problem with a staff member who is quitting, then a check of the news to see the hurting families who lost children in the Texas flooding.  Turmoil all around the globe, fear of war, and economic collapse.  Then the saddest news came, it involves a dear couple who are close to us and are at war with each other.

I once heard a pastor say that peace is not the absence of trouble, it is the presence of the Saviour.  Praise the Lord for His peace that was promised to us before He left this world.  His peace is not the same as the world’s peace.  His peace is the answer to a troubled heart.

Later in my reading, I came to chapter 32 and verse 17, which says, “And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever.”  Psalm 85:10 says that “righteousness and peace have kissed each other.”

We could avoid so much conflict if we would just act right with each other and do right according to God’s word.  May our Lord grant us peace in this troubled world and calm our souls with a peace that only comes from the presence of the Saviour.

Reflection—A brook would lose its song if the rocks were removed.
