Ps 25:4-5 Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. 5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.
Even though he could not see it, David believed that God had a way for him to survive this crisis. David begged for God to reveal that way to him.
We all desire to avoid crisis and trouble. When they invade our lives, we usually seek a way to quickly escape them. But we need to keep in mind that God’s way usually leads through crisis and trouble, not around them or away from them. By trudging through the trouble and trials that confront us, God teaches us the most valuable lessons of the Christian life.
David also asked God to teach him His paths. Straying from God’s righteous path had created David’s crisis. He asked God to teach him how to stay on the right path—God’s path, the path of righteousness and obedience to His holy commands.
Perhaps this should be our prayer and goal as we enter this New Year: “Show me thy ways and teach me thy paths.”
Consider – It is easier to save a sinking ship than to revive a sunken one.
