Ac 19:35-36 And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter? 36 Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.
An unruly crowd had created a disturbance in the city of Ephesus where Paul had been preaching the gospel. Demetrius, a leader in the silver trade, had encouraged the uproar because Paul was hurting his business of selling silver shrines of the goddess Diana.
The town clerk finally quieted the people. He was a man with some wisdom and diplomacy. He convinced the people that the best way to handle the situation was through a lawful procedure. His counsel was to “do nothing rashly.”
We, too, could avoid much trouble and regret if we used the same caution and common sense when facing difficult and trying situations. Some matters, of course, demand immediate attention. Others require time and prayerful consideration before action is taken.
“Do nothing rashly” is wise counsel for the Christian who wants to do the will of God.
Consider – Prayer is the most powerful tool believers have, but also the most neglected.
