Ps 27:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Today, in my daily Bible reading, I began the book of Psalms and started my day getting lost in the beauty of the book. By the time I got to the 23rd Psalm, I was fully emersed in the poetic meter of what is perhaps the most memorized and cherished passage in Scripture. I spent a longer time in my reading than normal this morning and as the busy day unfolded with multitudes of demands on my time and problems to deal with, I came to realize my time in Psalms was ordered by the Lord.
When I came to the 27th Psalm, I noticed a natural alliterated outline that helped me get through my day.
We read, Ps 27:3-4 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. 4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.
In verse five the Psalmist says, “He shall hide me.” What a comfort to know that when the enemy seeks, my Lord hides me under His wings, and in verse 9 that He will not hide His face from me.
Verse seven give me confidence the God hears me when the Scripture says, “Hear O Lord when I cry.” There is no greater promise than the Lord hears me when I cry out to Him.
In verse 9 David states that, “thou has been my help.” He’s the One who gives me courage when life overwhelms me.
Verse 13 tells me the blessings of God are mine for me today, right now, in the here and now. I can always count on Him. Ps 27:13 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
What a Saviour! Life more abundant in the here and now, in this life, and streets of gold in the next.
Consider – Good things become bad things when they keep us from the best things.
