Ac 5:17-19 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation, 18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison. 19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

In Acts chapter 5, the early church was growing and doing mighty things for God. People were being saved, and the Holy Spirit was at work.  After the account of Ananias and Sapphira at the beginning of the chapter, we read of how multitudes were coming to Christ and revival was reaching out unto other cities beyond Jerusalem.

The religious leaders were not happy, and in fact, the Bible says they were filled with indignation. This resulted in the apostles being put into prison.

Verse nineteen begins by saying, “But the angel of the Lord.”  Seeing how God stepped in and watching Him deliver in time of need is such blessing. In Acts 13:29-30, we see this happen regarding the crucifixion of Christ.

Ac 13:29-30 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre. 30 But God raised him from the dead:

The devil thought that he had finally won, but God stepped in and raised Jesus from the dead.

A very common passage we use often is Romans 5:7-8. Here the Bible says:  “For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. [8] But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Reading these verses is such a blessing and an encouragement to know that no matter what comes our way God is in control and can step in at anytime.

Whatever trial you may encounter today rest assured that our Saviour has the ability to intervene and deliver.

Consider – A field that has rested gives a beautiful crop.
