Wait!

Ps 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

In the KJV Bible, the words “wait, waited, waiteth, waiting” appear over 150 times.  The primary meaning of these is “to stop, be still, and see what God will do.”

Many people in the Bible had to “wait.”  Abraham waited into old age for a promised son to be born (Isaac).  Joseph waited in prison for a purpose to be fulfilled.  Caleb and Joshua waited in the wilderness in the hope of God’s promise of entering Canaan.  Job waited through suffering.  David waited to be king at the appointed time. And many others waited.

Several women waited.  Sarah waited 25 years to give birth to Isaac. Rebekah was barren, but after 14 years, God blessed her with twins (Jacob and Esau). Rachel was initially barren, prayed for a child, and was given Joseph.  Hannah was barren, prayed for a son, promising to dedicate him to God’s service. She bore Samuel.  Elizabeth prayed for a child, giving birth to John the Baptist.  Anna waited her entire life for the Messiah and recognized Jesus when he was presented at the Temple.

Waiting is nothing new and as a child of God, we should not be surprised if God has us in His “waiting room.”

In March, my husband had a heart attack.  As legal residents in Costa Rica, we are eligible to use their social security medical system for a small monthly cost.  The ambulance, the hospital stay (including meals), the doctors, the tests (EKGs, bloodwork, heart monitor, etc.), IVs, medications, the heart catheterization and angioplasty were services provided free of charge.

HOWEVER, if it is not a critical emergency, you have to wait your turn.  The waiting was hard.  I wanted something done NOW.  But he was under 24/7 supervision by a doctor, caring nurses attended to his needs, and we just had to WAIT.

I learned waiting is a patient, confident trust in the Lord.  We need to trust Him, seek Him, wait on Him through prayer, expecting Him to meet our needs.  God met our needs and during the waiting, we were able to pass out MANY of my husband’s testimony tracts, “I’m No Longer An Orphan” in Spanish.  We pray that those tracts will bear fruit.

We praise God for His goodness and mercy in bringing my husband through this ordeal.  We are thankful for the many people and churches who were upholding him in prayer.

Consider – There are many blessings In God’s “waiting room.”
