Pr 11:13 A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.

What is the most powerful and deadly weapon known to humanity?  Is it a man-made weapon such as a nuclear warhead?  Is it some dread disease?  Is it the fury of nature unleashed?

Strangely, the world’s deadliest weapon is none of these.  It is a small, living instrument that, at some point, exposes the sinful heart of every human being. This deadly weapon is none other than the tongue.  James said it best:  Jas 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

Profane, godless people use their words to destroy their neighbors.  Many of these people pretend to be Christians, but are not.  They are frauds and imposters—false believers.

However, the righteous can keep from falling victim to them.  They can escape the verbal damage through knowledge—the discernment that comes through knowing the Lord and His Word.  Godly people see through those who try to destroy others with their tongues, and they stay away from them.

I’ll admit that there are times when we all are tempted to pass along a juicy piece of gossip, but we must remember that God hates gossip.  He loves a secret that is kept because of compassion and faithfulness.  Of course there are times we must expose a sinful cause that is evil and harmful.  Even then we must have a humble heart and a right purpose.

Aren’t you glad that God doesn’t tell others everything He knows about you?  Remember that it is wiser to choose what you say; than to say what you choose.

Consider – Remember that a rumor is about as easy to un-spread as butter.
