Job 14:22 But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.
Pain has been ordained for the protection and enhancement of man. Without it, he wouldn't know whether he was walking on green grass or hot coals, on sharp nails or feather pillows.
Seeing that hurts of many kinds, from many sources, are appointed to every one of us as Infinite Wisdom has thought wise, then my part is to thicken my skin for lashes, adjust my mind for injury, strengthen my back for burdens, and increase my faith for sorrow.
And each time I suffer by trial, I shall grow as a Christian and learn to draw strength from my Heavenly Father. This will also help me to be prepared for the next trial. No Christian is exempt from trials, pain or difficulties; for the Bible says, “All that live Godly in Christ shall suffer persecution” (2 Tim. 3:12).
So – evidently there are some needs for suffering in the wise plan of the Gracious Designer. For instance—a motivation for action, a teacher of character, a giver of wider dimensions, and a developer of sympathy. Besides these contributory factors, there is another reason for bracing up: pain is short lived, and when it is past, it no longer hurts.
1Pe 4:12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
Consider—Live by promise not by explanations.
