Servanthood
For Women By Women

Joh 12:26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

The idea of servanthood is not usually a pleasant one in this day and age.  No one naturally desires to be a servant, being ordered about by others and having to give up desires.

Jesus tells us in Gal. 6:2 to “bear ye one another’s burdens…”  and again in Gal 5:13 “…by love serve one another.”

Jesus was the greatest example of serving others, especially demonstrated when He knelt down and washed His disciples’ feet!  What meekness and humility He had and taught us by His example.

The Bible tells us in Acts 20:35, it is better to give than to receive.

In thinking of being a servant, let us think of the positive aspects it affords.

Servants are in the position to hear secrets and things of a household that no one else knows about or hears—whether in the White House or in any person’s home.  They know things of importance before most anyone else.

In Jn. 2:1-11, we read the first recorded miracle that Jesus did, turning water into wine.  Verse 9 says,  “When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was; (but the servants which drew the water knew:)”   The servants knew who had brought about this miracle.

Those who are closest to their Master get to see and experience great things others do not.

Peter walked on the water. Philip and Andrew saw over 5,000 fed with a lad’s small lunch.  John, the beloved, was be side Jesus daily and stood by the cross of Jesus, watching Him die and saw and heard things only a few did.

Now let us bring this servanthood to us today. John 12:26 used above, says “If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall my servant be:”

In order to be a servant, you must be where the Master is.  We must be where Jesus is, if we are to serve and follow Him.  We cannot serve Him in places He will not be, doing things He would not do. We cannot serve two masters.

Consider: You cannot serve the Master from afar.
