God Will Deliver Me

1Sa 17:36-37 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God. 37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

Last January we three Ministry Representatives for the Lighthouse Homes, along with our wives, took a trip to our children’s home in the Philippines.  It was the most difficult trip that my wife and I had ever made.  One day we flew from Knoxville to San Francisco through Washington, D.C.  The next day we flew from San Francisco to Tokyo, on to Manila, and down to Davao City.  The flights and layovers totaled over thirty hours.  I thought they were joking about a four hour van ride from the airport to the home.  They were not!

The next morning we were back in the van again for a ride to church.  After a time of greeting before Sunday School where the children from the home came with smiling faces to shake our hands, or touch their foreheads for a blessing, we went back to our seats.  I looked at Jo and asked her if the trip was worth it, with tears in my eyes and hers, she said “Yes!”

That was a wonderful day!  Pastor Chris Hunter told of his vision for 1,000 children, and one of the songs they sang had in the lyrics—God can, and God will.  By the time we got to the last sermon, Frank Williams from our group was fired up and ready to preach.  At one point in the message, recalling the lyrics of the song, God can, and God will, he added because God has!

That has become the favorite saying among us who were there.  We have caught the vision of 1,000 children, not because we have the knowledge of how to accomplish anything remotely like 1,000 children, but because we believe God can.  We believe He will, because we have seen Him at work before, in smaller ways to be sure, but we have seen God work before.

David faced the lion and the bear before God put him before the giant.  David believed God would deliver him again because of the workings of God in the past.

Consider – What about you, do you have faith building moments in your past that will cause you to say, God can, and God will, because God has?
