Ps 10:14 Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.

Before God ever instituted the church, gave the Ten Commandments, or provided the promised land to the nation of Israel, He instituted the home.  Adam was given dominion over the garden, and God gave him a help meet to do so. The command for Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth led to a triune family of father, mother, and children.

The result of sin in chapter three of Genesis leads us to where we are today.  Death and destruction have cursed the world.  Wickedness and ungodliness abound through hearts of deceitful men.  Drugs and alcohol are destroying families as the devil rejoices.

As a result, children are born into homes where there is no father. Missionaries around the world are rescuing abandoned children in streets, who have nowhere to sleep or food to eat. This heartbreaking fact should create compassion for God’s creation in our hearts.

As born-again Christians who have been redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb, we have been called to be ambassadors for Christ. One way that we can represent our Lord is through being a helper to the fatherless. Abandoned children who are hungry and homeless no doubt need to be cared for and nurtured.

Physical needs, however, are not the only need of these children. There are emotional needs, and most importantly, spiritual needs.

The reason for the sin that has led us to these crises is due to the disobedience of man in the garden.  The only eternal hope for these children is due to the obedience of The Man Christ Jesus in the garden. The victory that we have in Christ through His saving power is what fatherless children around the world need.

Yes, let us make sure children around the world have their physical and emotional needs met, but let us always remember that to be a true helper of the fatherless is to introduce them to a Heavenly Father that loves them beyond measure.

Consider – This spiritual help is the way to truly help the fatherless.

Heb 13:6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
