Satan’s Offer Of Compromise

Ex 3:19-20 And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand. 20 And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go.

Ex 4:22-23 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn: 23 And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.

In Exodus 6, God's instructions were given to Moses on what he is to say to the people of Israel, and what He is about to do.

God said, I will!

   1) Bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. (vs.6)
   2) Rid you out of their bondage. (vs.6)
   3) Redeem you. (vs.6)
   4) Take you to me for a people. (vs.7)
   5) Bring you into the land. (vs.8)
   6) Give it you. (vs.8)

Through a series of plagues, God worked to demonstrate His Sovereignty over the King of Egypt, His power over their gods, and His ability to deliver his people from bondage.

Pharaoh, a type of Satan, will make three offers of compromise to keep Israel IN bondage.

  1. Ex 8:28 And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me.
-- Serve God, but don't go too far with it. Don’t go crazy about it.

  2. Ex 10:11 ...go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that ye did desire.
-- Serve God but not with your family.

  3. Ex 10:24 … Go ye, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed…
-- Serve God, but not your possessions.

What will you leave behind when you go to serve the Lord?  Moses told Pharoah,
Ex 10:26 Our cattle also shall go with us; there shall not an hoof be left behind…

One day, everything you have accumulated on this earth will burn.  Only what you give to the Lord can be sent ahead.  Most believers will arrive in heaven only to walk through Heaven’s
pearly gates as a pauper on the streets of gold.

Consider – Though many people make promises to God in times of calamity, and like Pharoah go back on them, God will yet have the last word.
