Christian Mind Part 2—A Willing Mind

1Ch 28:9-10 And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. 10 Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.

In David’s charge to his son Solomon, we see some amazing truths about the Lord. David tells his son of God’s omniscience and of how in searching for Him, He would be found. The charge King David was giving his son is something we can certainly apply spiritually to our walk with the Lord.  At the end of verse 10, he closes by saying, “be strong, and do it.”

If we look back to the beginning of our text, we see that David first laid some ground work. First, he said for Solomon to know the God of thy father. It’s not enough to know ABOUT God; we must have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ.

Second, he said to serve Him with a perfect heart. How sad it is to see so many people serving the Lord out of obligation. This act can be a result of family pressure or of perhaps a ministry position that has become a career or job.

Family support is important. Serving the Lord as a career or ministry is wonderful. However, we must always remember that serving the Lord must be done out of a perfect heart and not out of peer pressure from external factors.

Thirdly, he says “with a willing mind.” How important this phrase is because our willingness to serve must start with the mind.

Our churches are full of people who are saved and know the truths of God’s Word. Many faithfully attend and even give to support the ministry, but some are not willing to get involved and go themselves. Giving to missions is a wonderful action, but if we only give to soothe our conscience because we are not willing to go ourselves, then we must self-examine.

The harvest is plentiful. The labourers are few.

Consider – May we all have a willing mind to serve wherever He leads.
