Equal Pay?

Mt 20:15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?

Of course, it is always RIGHT for the Lord to do with us as He wills. Many murmur against Him, like these did in the story.  Jesus tells how some reacted upon receiving their agreed upon wages.

Mt 20:11-12 And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house, 12 Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.

Obviously, they thought they had been treated unjustly, and they were protesting. The goodman reminds them of their verbal contract, and simply dismisses them. (Mt 20:14)

Though there are economic principles involved, this is not an economic lesson.  One lesson is to teach us who is the master and who is the servant.  Submission to the Lord Jesus is the spiritual application.  Trusting Him for provisions is another, whether they are little or much in comparison to someone else.  Our life needs to be governed by being and doing as He has ordained it to be for us. We are not to be focused on what He is doing in another’s life, in a comparing way.

Many speak of their rights, but I’m not sure they understand what they are demanding.  Do we  have the right to do whatever we want with our life?  According to God’s Word, we really do not. Freedom with consequences, maybe—but right, No!

Matthew 20 presents both recognition and rank in the Millenium Kingdom of Jesus.  The Lord is the righteous Judge Who will make those assignments according to His will.  And we will respond,  “Yes, Lord! It is lawful for You to do what You will with Your own!”

Consider – God is not going to reward you for the amount of work you have done. He will reward you according to your faithfulness to the job which He called you to do.
