Jas 1:10-11 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. 11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

The flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth. This truth from the book of James is one that is not recognized in today’s society.  Advertisements are bombarding the next generation with an emphasis on fashion, outward appearance, and success in this world.

God’s Word teaches us that this world will one day burn with a fervent heat. Contrary to evolution, we are in decline. Our bodies are aging, and we are fading as we go through life. The lie that beauty, money, fame—among many other things—will bring happiness is one that the devil has used for thousands of years. In fact, he used that same tactic with Eve in the garden of Eden.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 7:31, “And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.”

How true it is that the fashion of this world passeth away!  We absolutely need to take care of our bodies as the temple of the Holy Ghost.  The problem comes when we begin to focus on our appearance rather than on honoring God in body and spirit which are His (1 Cor 6:19-20).

In the last part of James 1:11, the verse says, “so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.” We so easily get caught up in the trap of chasing riches and wealth that we can quickly forget our purpose in life. Our purpose is to bring our Creator glory not to glory in our own success, riches, and fashion.

Our Lord fashioned us in the womb and has given us something much greater than gold and silver.  May we look to Him and His Word and not fall into the trap of chasing empty pleasures.

Ps 119:72-73 The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver. 73 JOD. Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.

Consider – Fading in appearance and earthly substance takes place in small increments with the passing of each sunrise and sunset.
