Ps 9:1 To the chief Musician upon Muth-labben, A Psalm of David. I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.
As we enjoy the changing of seasons and fall time, we are blessed to celebrate Thanksgiving which is my favorite holiday. Our text verse gives us many thoughts to ponder during this season of thankfulness.
First, we see a personal desire to give thanks. The writer personally states that he will give thanks. This is a good time of year to personally focus on expressing to our Creator our praise. We should take time daily to give Him our gratitude and to tell others of His goodness.
Next, we see a purpose made. The word “will” means that he made a definite decision to be grateful.
A thankful heart is a happy heart. When we find ourselves discouraged and take time to give thanks, we can find joy. Purposing to give praise keeps us joyful in the Lord. Sometimes this choice can be difficult depending upon the circumstances we find ourselves in.
Yet, Paul reminds us, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
Even though choosing to give thanks may be tough, God is still good. We can cling to that truth. Once we go through a challenging season, we will be able to look back and say along with David “O taste and see that the LORD is good: Blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” (Psalm 34:8)
Also, we see that praise is given with his whole heart. With confidence, we can fully trust Christ and praise Him with our entire being for all that He has done.
Eph 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Most importantly, as Christians, we know the Person to Whom we are giving thanks. Our Saviour and LORD is the One from Whom all our blessings flow and the One to Whom we give our praise. He gave His all for us.
Ps 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
Consider – Choose to rest in and celebrate the goodness, greatness, and kindness of God.
