Be Ye Thankful

Ps 100:3-4 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

It’s is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is here again. Although Thanksgiving Day is a specific holiday, giving thanks should be a way of life.

We are the sheep of His pasture and abide in His creation. It is His gates that we are to enter into with thanksgiving. It is His courts that we are to enter in with praise.

The Bible says in Colossians 3:15, “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”

Thankfulness is not a suggestion, but rather, it is a command. Having a grateful heart toward our Lord and Saviour is the least that we can do.

In the account of the lepers in Luke 17, Jesus cleanses ten lepers but only one returns to give Him thanks. Jesus said,

  • Lu 17:17-18 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? 18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.

Jesus asked the question, “where are the nine?” In His deity, He had the power to heal them, while in His humanity He asked a valid question. How easy it is to take the benefits and blessings from our Lord—and then forget to give Him thanks.

May we have the heart of gratitude just like the one who returned.

  • Lu 17:15-16 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.

Consider – The most rejected (leper, Samaritan, stranger) was the most thankful—evidence that he had received more than physical healing.
