Light

Lu 1:79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
In the first chapter of Luke, we read about the birth of John the Baptist. John was given the title “the prophet of the Highest.” In the gospel of John in chapter 1, we clearly see his ministry purpose.
Joh 1:7-8 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
The example we have here is of a witness of light. The preceding verses that lead to our text verse in Luke states, “That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, [75] In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.” (Luke 1:74-75)
I put these verses together because this time of year is my personal favorite with the fall weather and with the change of seasons. This time is also my least favorite due to the dark, wicked, Halloween decorations that appear everywhere.
Our God is a God of light. We are the children of light. This time of year should drive us to declare the Light of the World just as John the Baptist did.
God’s people are to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather reprove them ( Eph 5:11 ). This is not a time for Christians to sit back and to watch the evil, dark powers of the world entangle the next generation. This is a time for us as soldiers to share the light of the gospel.
There is no better time than now to be distributing God’s written Word through New Testaments, John and Romans, Gospel tracts, and complete Bibles. The Truth and Light are in our possession, and we must be active in letting the light so shine in this dark evil world and not hide it under a bushel.
Fellow Christian, I encourage you to use this opportunity to “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21 ) through the distribution and declaration of the Light of the World.
Consider – Jesus never challenged us to become salt or light. He simply said that we are— and we are either fulfilling or failing that given privilege and responsibility.
