Isa 50:10 Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.
Ps 71:5 For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth.
Recently Paula and I met a couple that had an unusual story. The man was in his early 60’s, and he had retired from the business world. He was now ready to relax, spend time with his children, grandchildren, and do some traveling.
As he was looking over some travel brochures one day he picked up a brochure about Iceland. While looking at the pictures of Iceland, God spoke to his heart about going to Iceland as a missionary. He could not believe it!!! God was calling him to be a missionary at his age, and of all places, Iceland.
His wife had a difficult time accepting this as God’s will. During her Bible reading time in the next couple of weeks, she kept coming to verses that had to do with trusting and obeying the Lord. They both surrendered to the call, packed up and moved to Iceland to help a missionary that was struggling. God used them to help steady and strengthen the Church.
Trust does not come from the head but from the heart. It is not the result of reasoning; it is the result of believing and obeying. Trust is an all or nothing proposal: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart.” Partial trust is not trust at all. Either God is trustworthy, or He is not. If He cannot be trusted with all, He cannot be trusted at all.
We have to make a choice. We can follow our own understanding, or we trust in a God Who is greater than our understanding. What we have to recognize is that our understanding is not trustworthy. Trust must be followed by obedience if we are to serve the Lord.
