Lu 10:33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
The Bible teaches us to love our neighbor and to love those who are unlovable. Jesus taught us about true love in the parable of the Good Samaritan. A man was lying in the road almost dead. He had been beaten, robbed, and left to die. Two religious men came down the road, and they passed him by without offering to help. In fact, they crossed to the other side of the road to avoid him completely.
Jesus is our example. When he saw the needs of hurting people, He responded to their needs. He had compassion on them and helped them. As we go through life, we are going to see many people who are hurting or in need. Are we going to be like those religious men in Luke 10 that just walked on by, or are we going to be like the Good Samaritan and have compassion on them and do what we can to help them?
Serving the Lord is more than just putting some money in the offering plate. May each of us learn from the Lord that when we see a person in need; it is an opportunity to show them the love of God by taking our time and resources to help them. Many times it will also be an opportunity to share with them the love of God and the plan of salvation.
Thought – The Samaritan was like Jesus—an outsider, despised by many; came before it was too late; came with everything necessary; gave tender care; provided for future needs.
