To Do According To All

Jos 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Joshua 1:8 is one of my favorite verses in all of Scripture. Much can be said about this one verse and multiple applications can be made. One phrase I want to highlight is “to do according to all.”
The Bible tells us that we are to be doers of the Word and not hearers only.
Jas 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
When David was instructing his son Solomon to build the temple, he said to be strong and to do it.
1Ch 28:10 Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.
The last part of the phrase says “according to all.” We do not have the liberty to pick and choose the portions of Scripture that we want to obey. The Bible tells us that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God and that every word of God is pure. We are not to live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
By God’s grace, may we observe to do according to all that is written in His Word.
Thought – Christian success is not a life without problems—but when like Joshua, we speak, meditate, and do God’s Word, we are able to face our challenges and battles with good success.
