Mr 4:36-39 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. 37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

A familiar text which we all can relate to as storms of life are common to all.  Although Jesus was IN the ship with them, they let the beating waves and the rising water within the boat bring despair and hopelessness to their souls.

At that moment, in the eye of the storm, they were questioning – Does God care?  A place that many of us have found, ourselves to be also.

Of course, God cared, just as He cares for us today in the eye of our storms. Immediately, after they sought Him, He brought calm to the sea, and the ship which was now full of water –  did not sink.

My thought is drawn to the ending of verse 36 – “also with him other little ships.” They were not the only ship in the storm. There is no mention of the disciples being concerned about the little ships around them, who were also experiencing the wrath of the storm.

Seldom are we the only ones in the storm which is raging around us. Often there are others who are in a similar storm of life. Always, there is someone observing us, as the storms of life pour down upon us.

Therefore, we need to drop our anchor in the Lord so that we are held stable and steadfast.  We should first seek His face for guidance and peace, rather than exhausting all other options.  In doing so, we show others that we believe our God is able.

May we set a watch upon our lips so that we express gratitude and praise rather than worry and fret.  As we keep our eyes focused upon Him, rather the storm, it will be easier to walk victoriously through the raging storm.

Prayer – Lord, help us to remember that we are not the only ship, that there are other little ships around us. Please enable us to walk a path of faith which will direct them to the One who gives hope—when there is no hope to be seen.
