God Dwells In The Thick Darkness—Part 2

Ge 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Jer 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
Most of the time when we speak of darkness, it with a negative connotation. Even when the trials of this life come, as they did with Job, we look at the negative, and we identify with Job in our dark days of life.
But from God’s perspective, He sees beyond the darkness and sees the future and the end result. We cannot see past the present; the future is beyond our view. But as believers, we can rest in the fact that we are God’s children, and He knows the beginning and the ending of all things. He knows what He is doing to conform us to the image of His dear Son.
It should therefore be a comfort to us when go through the darkness with Him, that God does His most majestic works in darkness.
Consider the following three examples of what God did in the darkness:
1. God created in the darkness according to Genesis 1:2.
In the darkness, before there was light, God began His creation.
God created all of us in the darkness of the womb, Jeremiah 1:5.
And He created the God-Man in the dark womb of a virgin.
2. God gave the commandments to Moses in the darkness on a mountain top in Exodus 20:21.
Where no one could see, with His own finger, He wrote the law on tables of stone.
3. On the cross, where the work of Christ was finished that gave us our redemption, it was done in the darkness.
• The work of salvation was completed in a transaction between the Father and the Son in darkness.
I love what Issac Watts penned in “At The Cross,” when he wrote the verse—Well might the sun in darkness hide, And shut his glories in, When Christ, the mighty Maker died, For man the creature’s sin.
The following verse is left out of most of our hymnals—Thus might I hide my blushing face, While His dear cross appears, Dissolve my heart in thankfulness, And melt my eyes to tears.
Thank God for what He does in the thick darkness!
Consider – If people would rest in darkness and work in light, the world would be better off.
