[Lighthouse Daily Devotion] Panning In The Word

Panning In The Word

Ps 119:127 Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold.

Recently, I had the opportunity to go on a gold-panning tour. Our tour guide was extremely interesting as he talked about the gold prospectors and their search for gold years ago. He gave details of the hundreds of miles of tunnels inside the mountains, of the lives that had been lost, and of the great challenges that people faced on their quest for gold.

I was fortunate to find a few small flakes of gold after sifting through pounds of sand and rocks. The gold separates itself by settling to the bottom because it weighs more than anything else in the pan.

Although many correlations can be made to the Bible and gold, one specific area I want to consider is found in Psalm 19:10. The Bible says, “More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.”

We have unlimited access to something far more valuable than gold. Many people all around the world do not have even a small portion of God’s Word. Many others do have countless copies but do not read or consider the Scriptures.

If we as individuals, as families, and as churches would search God’s Word—with the same enthusiasm and diligence that so many have searched for gold—how different this world would be.

The concluding challenge for myself is to recognize that I have something much more valuable than gold. God’s Word should be treasured, read, applied, and distributed all around the world.

Ps 119:72 The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.

Consider – The Bible can do what gold cannot—It will not fret the heart, but comforts it. It doesn’t weary the brain, but soothes it. It will not impair the moral sense, but sanctify it.

Smiley – I know they say that money talks, but all mine says is ‘Goodbye.’
