Aged Women
For Women By Women

Titus 2:3-5 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; 4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

In Titus chapter 2, some instruction is given to born-again daughters of God. This instruction is given to women with a specific attribute that is mentioned: “aged.” When I first read this passage, my attention was focused on this attribute, and I felt as though this didn’t really apply to me.  I may be older than I used to be, but I don’t believe I qualify as “aged.”

Then, God helped me understand something. Though “aged woman” in this verse does mean “old woman,” it may be applied to someone who is not necessarily old and decrepit. One does not have to be old, to start living and teaching these things. The woman who owns this attribute earned it by going through and surviving some things. She’s, as some might say… “been around a block or two.”

That means she is mature, and the things she went through made that maturity possible. And that isn’t anything to be ashamed of.  I used to teach my girls in Mississippi, “I tell you about the mistakes I made so you don’t have to learn the hard way; you can (if you will) just listen and learn and avoid the consequences. By doing that, I can lead a life of no regrets because you will be better for my experience.”

This Aged gal, because she went through some stuff, can help others by teaching them how to do things the right way, God’s way. As I taught my girls in Mississippi, you can teach those around you. That makes your experiences valuable as well. The things that have happened in your life molded you into the woman you are today and have empowered you to help others.

So, get out there and teach someone about all God has done for you. You might find it easier than you think. And being an “aged” gal isn’t so bad.

Consider – Age and experience present a special mission—to teach both by example and precept. In this passage, the Holy Spirit gives purpose to the aged.
