[Lighthouse Daily Devotion] The Way of the Home

The Way of the Home

Ps 102:18 This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD.

Recently, my dad told me that many people use the phrase, “the way of the cross leads home.” He said that this is a true saying, but the way of the home should lead to the cross. I found this statement to be profound. Everything we do in our homes should be directed to the cross of Calvary.

In Exodus 12, God gives Moses the instructions of the Passover lamb. In verse 21 the Bible says, Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover.

The application of Christ being our Lamb and of the blood applied to the doorpost is that we need to make sure the Blood of Jesus has been applied to our home. This responsibility does not fall on the preacher, the Sunday school teacher, or the children’s workers in church.

For my home, it is my responsibility. I can just imagine the grief of the fathers in those homes where the father was not obedient in applying the blood to the doorpost, and as a result of their disobedience, lost their firstborn. How heartbreaking that reality must have been.

Yet, in our current state, our homes are filled with television shows, movies, and music that are pulling our children to the world. Family prayer has been replaced with sitcoms. Family devotions no longer can take place because of ball practice and competitions.

We need fathers to step up, to lead their homes, and to direct their homes to the cross where our Saviour died.

Fathers, teach your children the statues of the Bible and the victory we have in Christ. Show them the paths of light that only comes through a relationship with our Creator. Yes, the way of the cross leads home, but may we as leaders in our homes lead our families to the way of the cross.

Consider:  Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
