Remembering The Fallen

1Sa 17:45 Then said David ... I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.

Today is Memorial Day, and we are reminded of the almost 1.5 million soldiers killed in action, or MIA, in American wars. These honorable ones fought valiantly, and they have given their lives for love of country and its people. Though they are dead and gone from this life, there are many others whose lives are in jeopardy in a warzone somewhere in this world.

We cannot pray for the bygone heroes of yesterday, as their eternal destiny is already settled. Once a man lies prostrate in death, for causes good or bad… the time for prayer has ceased, the deadline of decision-making concluded.

But we do and should pray for those who are yet serving in our military. Many military men and women are bravely and nobly sacrificing—out of a sense of patriotism and honor and love for the historic principles that have made America great. Many of them sincerely stand ready to defend this country from all enemies, foreign and domestic.

Serving in the military is never easy, even in peaceful times. Serving is especially difficult in times of war and conflict.

Many military men and women have come to know the Lord Jesus as personal Saviour. Many also are being put into positions where they are caused to seek God. There is something about the awareness and reality of death that makes a person think about eternity.

We pray for these to be strong in the Lord. And we pray for the yet unsaved,  that they would turn to the Lord Jesus before it is eternally too late.

David was a real soldier for the Lord. He was not afraid to face God’s enemies. He knew the Lord had a purpose in his life, and he trusted the Lord to fulfil it. He knew he was prepared for the moment. He knew that God would fight this battle through him. All he had to do was step up and sling away!

Thought – A real soldier cannot be killed because has already died prior to being shipped out.

Did You Know? There are more chickens than people in the world.
