Who He Met

Luke 5:1-3 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. 3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
It is easy to read the gospel accounts of the life of Christ and trace His journey. In many Bibles there are helpful maps in the back that record His journey from the Manger to the Cross. It is important to understand the meaning of where He went, when He went there and why, but it is more important that we should not lose the focus of who He met along the way.
In the fifth chapter of Luke, while Christ was in Galilee, He took a trip to the shore of the nearby lake, and the people followed him there. It was not by chance that as Jesus arrived at the beach, Peter was washing his nets with his fishing partners. Jesus was keeping a divine appointment with them. Jesus already knew they had fished all night and came up empty. The Lord also knew that every individual that followed him would be at the same spot.
We must remember that every step our Saviour took was with purpose. He was headed to the cross, but along the way, everyone He met was planned and at the exact precise time appointed.
So it was also, when Jesus came by my way. He knew exactly when I would be at Meadowlake Baptist Church where Wayne Crenshaw was preaching one Sunday morning in April of 1963.
Reflection—Do you know the time and place when Jesus came by your way?
