Where Was A Garden

John 18:1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
All through the Bible, there are special places where important things happen. They happen on mountaintops, in valleys, around wells, and along the way. Consider these two gardens with the events that happened in them. One was where God placed the first Adam, the other was where God placed the Second Adam.
In the first garden, Adam talked with God in the cool of the day. In the second, Christ poured His heart out to God in the darkness of night. In the first garden, Adam fell into temptation, in the second Christ resisted the temptation to avoid the death that would soon be coming. Adam hid himself in his garden. Christ did not hide when they came into his garden to take Him away. Adam was driven from his garden; Christ was willingly lead away.
In the first garden sin began—in the second, Christ’s suffering began as He sweat great drops of blood. In Adam’s garden, the curse of thorns was pronounced on all mankind. In the second, the curse of mankind was being placed on Christ and soon a thorny crown was placed on His head. In the first garden, God gave the promise of a Redeemer to Adam—in the second, Christ presents Himself to be The Lamb of God, taking away the sin of the world.
In the first garden, stood a tree where the first Adam would fail and bring shame to the Father, but in the second, there was the shadow of another tree. On the cross of Calvary, the Second Adam would not fail at his tree. He gained all the glory, and more, that the Father lost at that first tree.
Reflection—Thank God for the second garden, the second tree, and the Second Adam, my Lord!
